Does Cheap Health Insurance Really Exist?
Finding cheap health insurance may seem like a tall order. Medical costs are rising steadily and health insurance is becoming more and more expensive to buy. There is probably no 'perfect' plan out there and while affordability is important it won't ever outweigh the need for adequate medical coverage. However, you should ask some important questions before taking out a health insurance plan.
Finding cheap health insurance is one thing but making sure your family is well protected may be quite another. If you find an affordable policy you need to ask some important questions that will help you to determine whether the levels of care you are getting are just as 'budget' as the price. Here are some things you need to consider before signing on the dotted line:
Is the policy affordable? Cheap health insurance may not be affordable despite its price! This is because there may be many hidden costs for which you will have to foot the bill. This can work out to be more expensive than you bargained for. Find out what your monthly rates will be and what additional costs are due by you, personally.
Determine whether your cheap health insurance policy covers most of your medical expenses or only major ones. Does it cover only you and your spouse or are all your kids included under the policy terms? Find out what deductibles apply.
Find out if your cheap health insurance policy covers any health care practitioner or specifies which ones you can use. If you use a doctor not specified, what costs are due by you? Make sure you know what doctors/practitioners are approved by the scheme. Are you happy with the choices available to you?
If you are only able to see a certain group of practitioners find out if they are near to your home or work. Gas expenses to far away locations may far outweigh the money you save on your cheap health insurance, especially if you have kids who visit the doctor frequently.
Try to find out how independent government organizations rate your cheap health insurance plan or speak to others who have the same plan. If your doctor will talk to you about the plan - what does he have to say about it?
Never choose a health insurance plan based on cost alone. A cheap health insurance plan is only worth the comfort and security it provides.
